Introduction To Dry Needling for Sports and Spinal Injuries is organized by Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and will be held during Feb 03 - 04, 2018 at Austin Hospital, Melbourne, Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia. The target audience for this medical event is for qualified physiotherapists only.
Course Description:
Physiotherapists are increasingly using dry needling for pain management. This structured course meets the national recommendations for physiotherapists to practice dry needling safely for musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. The sound knowledge of indications and contraindications for dry needling requires appropriate assessment and treatment skills. This course is designed to provide physiotherapists an opportunity to improve knowledge and skills of dry needling, and make them aware of guidelines for safe dry needling practices.
Conference Objectives are :
• Understand the theories and research on dry needling pertaining to musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.
• Be aware of the contraindications and precautions for dry needling.
• Understand infection control guidelines and effectively practice infection control in relation to dry needling.
• Be able to evaluate patients suitable for dry needling.
• Be able to complete a technique checklist for safe dry needling in a range of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.
• Reach a level of safe dry needling of upper trapezius, thoracic spine and quadratus lumborum – three of the most dangerous areas physiotherapists are likely to needle.
