Safe and effective antibiotic use has been a cornerstone of antimicrobial stewardship with a goal of combating bacterial resistance and improving patient outcomes. This program provides a general pharmacological overview of various antimicrobial medications, their mechanisms of action, side effects and spectrum of activity while highlighting key clinical pearls in choosing the appropriate antibiotic(s) in the outpatient setting to reduce bacterial resistance.
