Association of Surgeons for the Application and Methodology of Ilizarov (ASAMI)

The Association of Surgeons for the Application and Methodology of Ilizarov- India Chapter is a professional medical body and was established in Mumbai in 1992. Inspired by the genius of “Prof Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov, the Magician of Kurgan” and his path breaking principles of Distraction Histogenesis, ASAMI India was conceived with a mission to get together professionals interested in the field of Deformity Correction and Limb Reconstruction on a common platform and to serve as an academic body for facilitating exchange of knowledge and technology needed for accomplishing highest standards in the field of holistic management of limb deformities with ilizarov principles.

Rooted firmly, the association has seen great progress. Over a period of 3 decades, lot of orthopaedic surgeons from all across India as well as from Neighbouring counties have joined ASAMI India. To accomplish the mission of standardising the ilizarov methodology the following aims and objectives are at the core of the association:

• To encourage and advance the art of Deformity correction, limb reconstruction and limb lengthening by ilizarov methods.
• To promote professional fellowship, cooperation and exchange of views among Orthopaedic surgeons at national and international levels.
• To organise regular teaching and instructional activities.
• To encourage and promote scientific research and maintain a reference library.
• To cooperate with other professional medical organisations of the country.
