The German Society for Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR) was founded as a specialist representative for all interventional radiology and minimally invasive radiologists within the DRG. The main focus of the DeGIR's activities is on advanced training and quality assurance in intervention radiology practice.

Thematic focuses are on:
• The support of further education and training in the field of interventional radiology
• The development and dissemination of methodological recommendations for interventional procedures
• The support of the quality assurance of interventional procedures through a suitable system
• The documentation and analysis of the indication, methodology and results of interventional procedures
• Passing on information on economic aspects of interventional treatments
• Conveying information on current subject-specific events, other specialist societies and current scientific results relating to interventional treatments
• The provision of general information on interventional treatment procedures for patients and physicians.
