Korean Society for Vascular Biology and Medicine (KVBM)

Seo gu, Daejeon, South Korea

The Korean Society for Vascular Biology and Medicine was founded by the Vascular Research Society, which has been making an effort to revitalize vascular biology research in Korea since 2000. Pioneers in the field of vascular research in Korea - Kyu-Won Kim (College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University), Chi Bum Chae (Department of Life Science, POSTECH). Ho Jeong Kwon (College of Life Science and Biotechnology, Yonsei University), and Young-Guen Kwon (College of Life Science and Biotechnology, Yonsei University) were the founding members of this society, which was established with the vision to translate biological findings to clini-cal studies, thus inspiring more people to take interest in vascular research and stimulating the field of vascular biology. There have been numerous active national collaborations between members of the society and the Vascular Research Center funded by the gov-ernment organization Science Research Center (SRC), in Kangwon University since 2001. Furthermore, Their society has invested substantial efforts to advance the standard of vascular biology in Korea for example they have been hosting the Annual Korea-Japan Joint symposium, alternately with Japan.. since 2003. While actively collaborating with researchers, they realized the need to establish a society that can serve as a platform to introduce new techniques as well as to help connect scientists working on basic biology to clinicians. This led us to institute a formal society named the Vascular Science and Medicine Organization (VSMO) with its very first meeting formally announcing the society on December 12th-13th, 2013 in Busan.. Korea. VSMO is a comprehensive society encompassing basic, as well as translational and clinical vascular studies leading to the development of new drugs, multidisciplinary technology, diagnosis techniques and therapy to contribute to the advancement of research in vascular biology and public health.
