About:
The NET Research Foundation is committed to improving the lives of patients, families, and caregivers affected by neuroendocrine cancer by providing information and educational resources. We currently run four Neuroendocrine Tumor Patient & Caregiver Educational Conferences annually, which serve to provide the latest information on research and treatment options, while also connecting patients and caregivers with doctors, researchers, and one another. Our website offers a searchable doctor database, listings of all relevant organizations and support groups, information on our latest research projects, and a number of resources to help those who are affected by neuroendocrine cancers.
Mission:
To fund research to discover cures and more effective treatments for neuroendocrine cancers.
History:
Nancy Lindholm founded the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation [now the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation] in 2005 to support leading scientists whose research will lead to cures for carcinoid, pancreatic, and related neuroendocrine cancers. When Nancy was 29 years old, she collapsed on the subway in Boston. She was taken to the emergency room at Massachusetts General Hospital and was diagnosed with extensive liver tumors that displaced the majority of her liver, as well as with innumerable bony tumors. The doctors only gave her a few months to live. Nancy knew the importance of research for an incurable cancer that receives little governmental research funding and pharmaceutical company interest. She also knew that the more researchers learned about neuroendocrine cancer, the more insight they may have into other forms of cancer as well.
