Polytechnic University of Turin / Politecnico di Torino

Turin, Piedmont, Italy

The Royal Polytechnic of Turin was established as an institution in 1906, but its origins are more distant. The Application School for Engineers, built with the Casati Law in 1859 and the Italian Industrial Museum, born under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture of Industry and Commerce in 1862, were its direct ascendants. The first, established within the University, opened research and training superior to technical studies; the second looked more directly at the context of a country that faced the new industrial reality. Under different aspects and with complementary personalities, distinguished professors and researchers were able to give a status to new disciplinary areas, such as Electrical Engineering and Construction Science.
