The Department of Medicine & Therapeutics was formed in 1997 by the merger of the previous Departments of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. They offer teaching to medical students for the MBChB programme, provide clinical services and engage in new frontiers of both clinical and basic sciences research.

The Department covers a range of medical specialties including Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Geriatrics, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine and Rheumatology. Their partner hospitals for teaching and research include the Prince of Wales Hospital and Shatin Hospital. Clinical academic staff are also affiliated with the School of Biomedical Sciences, Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences, Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, as well as collaborate closely with the Nethersole School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy. They form a seamless partnership with staff of the Hospital Authority in providing service, teaching and research.
