University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf / Universitatsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf (UKE)

Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany

The University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) has been one of the leading hospitals in Europe since it was founded in 1889. By networking medicine, research and teaching, all UKE employees work hand in hand towards a common goal - the health and well-being of Their patients. they do research for them. They teach for them. They are constantly learning for them.

With around 14,400 employees, the UKE is one of the largest employers in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

The UKE was inaugurated on May 17, 1889 as the New General Hospital (NAK) in Hamburg-Eppendorf. It was founded on the initiative of Heinrich Curschmann, who in 1879 was appointed medical director of what was then the only general hospital in St. Georg. The NAK should support the hospital in St. Georg in caring for the patients. Because the Hamburg population was growing rapidly at the time and at the same time the Hanseatic city with its international port was a gateway for epidemics. In addition, the demand for treatment in the hospital was great because the then Chancellor Otto von Bismarck had introduced statutory social insurance. Originally, the new hospital was to be built near the port. However, for cost reasons, the Senate decided to build a new building on what was then the outskirts of Eppendorf.

Mission:
After an intensive update phase, the new UKE corporate mission statement was published in the summer of 2015. Over 800 UKE employees were involved in the design in order to ensure a realistic representation of the corporate culture and wide-ranging acceptance of the mission statement.

The aim of the mission statement is to offer all employees orientation in their everyday work, to motivate them and to strengthen the They feeling in the UKE.
