Urological Association of Asia (UAA)

Urological Association of Asia (UAA)

Singapore, Singapore, Singapore

The UAA was founded in August 1990 in Fukuoka, Japan. Its main objective is to promote Urology in Asia and to improve the care of Urology patients in the region, which has 60% of the world's population. Originally an association of individual members, it was restructured to become an association of member associations so as to achieve its goals in more cost effective ways. However, a decision has recently been taken to again initiate individual membership along with national memberships in order to promote a sense of belonging among the members. Currently, the UAA has 25 member associations and one affiliated member and welcomes more member associations to join.

Apart from the Asian Congress of Urology (ACU) which is now held annually, the UAA helps to run various workshops and seminars in the region. This is done through the Asian School of Urology (ASU) and the affiliated subspecialty societies, the Asian Society of Endourology, the Asian Society of Female Urology, the Asian Association for Urinary infections and STDs and the Asian Society of Uro-oncology.

The Aims of UAA are:
• Promote urology in Asia together with every Asian urological association.
• To narrow the gap in standard care and urological training.
• In long term: keep improving care of patients & training in urology.

How we plan to accomplish these aims:
• Established a standard format of the Scientific Congress of the UAA.
• Set guidelines for patient care
• Send teams of visiting clinicians to less developed regions
• Collaborate with other major urological organization: EAU, SIU,AUA, & Australasia.
• Develop training centers for sub-specialty in urology: Endo / Onco / Reconstructive & Pediatric, etc.
• Initiate data collection through multi-center studies
• Set a standard in urological training (Fellow of Board of Urology of Asia)
