The official Vilnius University (founded in 1579 in 1570. Jesuit college established based) Faculty of Medicine, founding date is 1781. 24 November. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania High School (then also officially called the University) Rector M. Počobutas, saying school year speech, announced to set up a medical unit. This decision led to the abolition of the Jesuit Order in 1773. University passed the Education Commission jurisdiction and partly turned secular path. At that time, medical and life sciences have made significant progress.

Bright traces the history of the faculty of leaving M. Renjė, J. Briotė, Ž. E. Žiliberas SL Bizijas LH Bojanus JA Lobenveinas JP J. Franks and others. They cultivated the clinical medical science, to introduce the practical innovation, laid the foundation of social medicine, national health statistics, hygienic foundation, reformed medical training procedures and methodology. Foreigners trained local professoriate and contributed to the reputation of the Faculty of Medicine at European level.
