Assistant Professor of Urology and Director of Research, Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Ackerman earned her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Immunology at Yale University. After realizing a desire to pursue translational medicine, she joined the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale, receiving an M.D. degree. Dr. Ackerman completed her residency in Urology and fellowship in Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA. Her current research focuses on the role of host-microbe interactions in the etiology of benign lower urinary tract disorders. Dr. Ackerman specializes in the treatment of men and women with incontinence, voiding dysfunction, and pelvic floor disorders, with a particular interest in geriatric urology.
