Dr DeVore is a cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at Duke University School of Medicine. His clinical interests include caring for patients with heart failure, including patients with left ventricular assist devices and heart transplants. He is involved in and leads many studies of patients with heart failure at both Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Clinical Research Institute
The overarching goal of his research is to improve the outcomes and quality of life of patients with heart failure. This includes both advancing the current understanding of heart failure through clinical trials as well as developing an evidence base for implementation strategies that address the gap between heart failure trial results and clinical practice. For example, he has served on the Steering Committees for large clinical trials, including PIONEER-HF and SPIRIT-HFpEF. Dr DeVore also published the first trial conducted within the Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure program, a registry-based cluster-randomized trial of quality improvement interventions. He is also interested in implementation projects for new heart failure therapeutics, including using pragmatic study designs and registry-based randomized trials to improve the translation of evidence-based care into clinical practice. He is currently the clinical lead on the analytic teams for the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure registry as well as the CHAnge the Management of Patients with Heart Failure (CHAMP-HF) registry. He is also the principal investigator for Care Optimization through Patient and Hospital Engagement Clinical Trial for Heart Failure (CONNECT-HF), a large-scale, pragmatic, cluster-randomized trial at 161 sites in the US evaluating heart failure quality improvement initiatives.
Dr DeVore is also the medical director for the Heart Failure Research Cluster at Duke University Medical Center. He is well-published in many high impact journals and is the author of multiple book chapters and editorials. He also serves as a reviewer for many cardiovascular and heart failure-specific journals.
