Mr Makar is a consultant urological surgeon. He specialises in urological cancer treatment like kidney, bladder and prostate cancer. He also specialises in reconstruction of the urinary tract, including bladder substitution. His research interests include bladder and prostate cancer research. He leads the programme of survivorship for prostate cancer in Worcestershire. The role of the Associate Medical Director (Cancer Services) involves overseeing the workings of the MDTs for all tumour sites, ensuring that they are well led. The Associate Medical Director (Cancer Services) leads the internal validation panel for peer review of cancer services in the Trust.
The Associate Medical Director (Cancer Services) represents the Trust at various cancer network meetings including Board meetings. Mr Makar led the development of the Worcestershire strategic direction options appraisal for cancer services, which culminated in the development of the new Cancer Strategy for Worcestershire and the procurement of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire as our strategic partner for cancer services.
Mr Makar is working with the Cancer Services team, the Worcestershire Oncology Project team and other stakeholders to implement the plans which will result in development of a Radiotherapy centre in Worcestershire for the first time.
