Dr Akeel Alisa qualified from Cambridge University and completed his junior medical training at King’s College Hospital. He then undertook clinical research in hepatology at the Institute of Hepatology (UCL) focusing on the immunological responses in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, non-invasive tests for liver fibrosis, gaining experience with liver transplant and the UK first living related liver transplant program. He concluded his higher postgraduate training in gastroenterology and general medicine in London, the South West Thames region. He was then appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist and general physician with an interest in hepatology. He has also an interest in luminal gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy and has been appointed as the lead in alcohol services. He is a faculty member at St George’s endoscopy training unit and at the United European Gastroenterology (UEG). He has an interest in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
