Alan S. Kaplan currently serves as CEO of UW Health, the academic health system affiliated with the University of Wisconsin. The health system realizes $3.5 billion annual net revenue and comprises six hospitals, 1,500 faculty physicians, and 17,000 staff members, and is the majority shareholder of Quartz health plan, serving 355,000 members. From 2009 to 2016, Dr. Kaplan served as executive vice president/chief clinical transformation officer for UnityPoint Health, a large community health system based in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the founder and president/CEO of UnityPoint Clinic, a multistate medical group, and president/CEO of UnityPoint at Home, a multiregional provider of home care, palliative, hospice, and infusion services.

Prior to joining UnityPoint Health, Dr. Kaplan served as CMO of Edward Hospital, a suburban healthcare system based in Naperville, Ill. Dr. Kaplan earned his medical degree from Rush University in Chicago. He is board-certified in emergency medicine and earned a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a fellow of the American Association of Physician Leadership, where he previously served as chairman of the board. Dr. Kaplan is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
