Dr Patel qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School (London) in 1998. He is dually accredited for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. He undertook specialist training in Anaesthesia within the South London St. George’s training scheme and in addition undertook a cardiac anaesthesia fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital as well as 3 years working with Healix International Aeromedical repatriation services where he gained extensive experience in aeromedical transfer medicine. His Intensive Care Medicine training commenced in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and progressed to the pan London scheme, where he trained at The Hammersmith Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and St. George’s Hospital.

Dr Patel has been a Consultant Intensivist and Anaesthetist since 2008. His specialist interests are in the perioperative care of high-risk cancer patients, hepatobiliary anaesthesia, medical education and management. Dr Patel is heavily involved in the teaching and training of junior doctors and has been the Faculty Tutor for Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Surrey County Hospital since 2011. The Royal College of Anaesthetists (London) FRCA appointed Dr Patel as an examiner for the FRCA examination in 2013. Since 2015, he has been the Clinical Director of Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has extensive clinical experience in both Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia.
