Ammar is a Canadian trained Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Head of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital in Dubai. He is the founder and president of the Emirates Society for Child Mental Health, the national representative society for child mental health in the UAE.
He completed his psychiatry residency and child psychiatry training at McGill University, Canada. He then joined the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children as a fellow in Paediatric Neuropsychiatry. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and an international fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Ammar has peer-reviewed research publications and received Research Grant Awards as the Principal Investigator, including the Harvard Dubai Research Award. His current research focus is on neuropsychiatric disorders in the UAE, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
He has received awards for recognition of his clinical, research and educational work. He is on the Advisory Board for the Rosalynn Carter Journalism Programme for Mental Health Journalism in Dubai and Jury committee of Princess Haya Award for Special Education in Dubai. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Child Psychiatry at UAE University.
