Dr. Weiler: While finishing my PhD I was leading the university alpine group at Freiburg. We organized climbing and ski trips and gave lectures with the aim to educate and prepare young students for the hazards of the mountains. This job exposed me to many people, including a Sigma-Aldrich employee who kept me in mind for employment once I finished my PhD. When I graduated with honors in organic synthesis in 1997, Sigma Aldrich offered me a Product Manager position, from there I quickly moved into project management and finally into sales.
Dr. Weiler enjoyed dealing with customers listening to their needs and developing customer solutions. Later on Weiler managed the European sales team and during this time we were able to win some long term strategic projects for SAFC. One example is the recently approved Biogen MS Blockbuster (Tecfidera). After the acquisition of Arklow, Cambridge and Manchester I managed the EU Project Management teams and we harmonized our documents, systems and processes in EU.
As a consequence of our success in EU I started to manage the global project management teams for SAFC. My market knowledge and the global leadership experience finally enabled me to run the global Sales and Project Management teams for SAFC Pharma. This helped us to identify bottlenecks, work on global improvement projects with the aim to streamline and improve our global sales and project management processes.
