Dr. Andrew Gelman is a Board certified (1988) member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. After graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he remained in Philadelphia, completing an internship at Metropolitan Hospital, then on to Albert Einstein Medical Center for a 2 year residency in surgery. In addition, he completed 4 years of Orthopaedic training which included pediatric Orthopaedics at Philadelphia's Shriners Hospital and the Jefferson Hand Center.
Dr. Gelman is a past president of the Delaware State Osteopathic Medical Society. Presently he is on staff at the Christiana Care Health System and St. Francis Hospital in their respective Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Gelman is a member of the Medical Society of Delaware and the Philadelphia and Delaware Orthopaedic Societies. He is the current President of the Local Arthritis Foundation and Local Physician Leader with Operation Walk, a national program assisting the uninsured addressing hip and knee replacement to improve one’s quality of life.
Active in athletics as a participant, as well as an observer, Dr. Gelman has completed many races over the years including the Boston Marathon. He continues his love of running by jogging regularly. He was a state of Delaware Lacrosse Official.
