Prof. Dr. Med. Bernhard Hellmich is the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Immunology at the Medius Klinik Kirchheim, Teaching Hospital of the University of Tübingen. He is the Co-Director of the Vasculitis Center Tübingen-Kirchheim.

Prof. Hellmich received his MD degree at the University of Bochum, Germany. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital Bergmannsheil in Bochum and his rheumatology training at the Rheumaklinik Bad Bramstedt and the University of Lübeck. From 2002 – 2007 he was vice-chair of the Department of Rheumatology at the Rheumaklinik Bad Bramstedt and University of Lübeck. In 2017, the was president of the German Society of Rheumatology (DGRh) annual scientific congress. Prof. Hellmich’s clinical and research interests are in the field of vasculitis. He is the clinical chair of the reference laboratory for ANCA diagnostics at Medius Klinik Kirchheim and is actively involved in multicenter clinical trials and cohort studies in different forms of vasculitis. Prof. Hellmich is the lead author of the EULAR recommendations for conducting clinical trials in vasculitis and the EULAR recommendations for the management of large vessel vasculitis from 2020. He also is a co-author of the EULAR/ERA recommendations for the management of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and the 2017 German S-1 Guidelines for the management of AAV.
