Brittany Johnson PhD, RDN, CSSD, CPT

Dr. Brittany V.B. Johnson, Ph.D., RDN, CSSD is an Assistant Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University in the Didactic Program in Dietetics since 2015. Prior to coming to PLNU, she practiced as a clinical dietitian working with patients in the Intensive Care Unit and managed a team of dietitians in an acute-care hospital. In addition, she taught community college general education courses at Crafton Hills College. As a certified specialist in sports dietetics, her primary interest focuses on understanding how food fuels tactical athletes for health and performance.

Dr. Brittan has a Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance and developed the Tactical Athlete Nutrition Score, a screening tool to identify nutritional gaps in tactical athletes. Johnson has a strong passion for studying intervention methods to optimize diets to improve tactical athletes’ health and well-being. Her previous research investigated the relationship between nutrition and health concerns (sleep, injury, and physical fitness) in career firefighters. Her research is focused on exploring, developing, and implementing nutrition programs to optimize health and performance in tactical athletes. Johnson has a strong passion for studying how to optimize diets to improve health and performance for tactical athletes.
