Dr. Farber is a graduate of Northwestern University's honors program in medical education. After receiving his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Northwestern University, he spent three years in Internal Medicine training at the University of Virginia Hospital with an additional year as a fellow in Infectious Diseases and Infection Control at the University of Virginia.
Additionally, Dr. Farber served a year in a clinical fellowship training program in Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital, supplemented by further research at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He then joined the medical faculty of the University of Pittsburgh as an infectious diseases expert before joining the staff at North Shore University Hospital in 1985 as a senior member of the Division of Infectious Diseases and as the hospital epidemiologist. In these roles he has excelled and provided excellent leadership as a teacher, clinical investigator and dedicated physician.
Dr. Farber has co-authored 45 peer-reviewed scientific papers, edited two books, and authored multiple review articles and abstracts. His academic interests include hospital infection control and antibiotic resistance. In addition to a very busy clinical schedule, Dr. Farber is the chief of infection control for numerous Northwell Health institutions. He serves on multiple health system committees, sharing his expertise in programs of infection control, emergency preparedness and quality improvement.
