Carol Kiriakos, MD, received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her medical degree from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. Her Internship was completed at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and her Residency in Adult Psychiatry was completed at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has had a private practice for over 10 years doing both medication management and therapy covering a wide range of diagnoses: Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorder, ADHD, Women’s Health Issues, and eating disorders.
She is also independently contracted as an eating disorder consultant/specialist at an eating disorder residential clinic in Santa Monica (“A New Journey”) whereby she provides medication management and participates in utilization insurance reviews. She also provides her consultation services and opinion on the different aspects of patients’ care relating to dietary management, therapy services provided, medical referrals needed, and levels of care that patients are eligible for.
In addition, she has been working in the capacity of a utilization reviewer for 30 insurance companies throughout the U.S. for more than 5 years. As a physician peer reviewer (utilization reviewer for insurance companies), she is responsible for rendering decisions regarding medical care that is necessary using approved clinical criteria set out by the insurance companies. She is responsible for reviewing the medical and psychiatric treatment of patients based on information from the referring medical insurance entities and based on additional information provided by the treating physicians and other treating providers. Clinical opinions are sought regarding levels of care, frequency of services, types of care, and other modalities of treatment.
