Carsten Buhmann, MD, Ph.D., is a Senior Consultant and Head of the Movement Disorder Outpatient Clinic as well as of the Parkinson's Day Unit at the Neurological Department of the University Clinic of Hamburg/Germany. Prof. Buhmann has profound expertise in the treatment of a wide variety of neurological diseases and he is specialized in the field of movement disorders including deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson´s disease (PD), dystonia, and tremor. He is a member of the steering committee of the German DBS consortium. He has been annually certified as one of Germany´s TOP physicians for Parkinson´s Disease since 2015 by the national FOCUS-Health-care survey. He is an expert in treating patients with EMG - and sonography-guided botulinum toxin injections, e.g. in dystonia, sialorrhea, or spasticity. His present clinical scientific research includes investigations regarding DBS, driving ability, dysphagia, sexual functioning, pain, and medical as well as structural treatment concepts in patients with Parkinson´s disease. Recent basic scientific research focused on functional MRI imaging and oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease. Prof. Buhmann has given several talks at scientific meetings, he is a member of the expert German guideline committee for Parkinson's disease and published in his field of research in a variety of scientific journals.
