Dr. Charles (Chuck) Simonton, M.D., is chief medical officer and divisional vice president, Global Medical Affairs in Abbott’s vascular business. Dr. Simonton has focused his career on helping people live their best lives through advanced cardiovascular care. In his current role, he is actively involved in both the development and comprehensive clinical study of breakthrough cardiovascular devices and advancing the education of interventional vascular physicians. Prior to joining Abbott, he served as an interventional cardiologist at the Sanger Clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina and founded the Division of Cardiovascular Research at the Carolinas Heart Institute. He also founded the Advanced Cardiovascular Interventions (ACI) regional symposium and the Carolinas Cardiovascular Foundation.
Dr. Simonton served as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center, where he also was a cardiology fellow, completing clinical training and research in congestive heart failure and interventional cardiology. He attended Harvard Medical School, where he received his M.D. degree. This was followed by internship, residency and then chief residency in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
