Charles L. Byrd MD

Charles L. Byrd, M.D., director of the Electrophysiology Institute at Broward General Medical Center (BGMC) was recently recognized and honored at the Heart Rhythm Society’s conference in San Francisco. Dr. Byrd received the Pioneer in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology Award for 2008.
Dr Byrd is best known as a surgical electrophysiologist, cardiac surgeon specializing in electrophysiology, and for his involvement in the development of many of the tools and procedures used to manage complications related to pacemakers and defibrillators. Notable are the development of the Spectronetics Eximer Laser in the 1990’s, the Cook Vascular Electrosurgical Dissection Sheath in the early 2000’s and recently the Cook Vascular Evolution.
