Professor Dr. Christopf Dorfer is Director of the Department of Dental Preservation and Periodontics, at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel. In 2012 he was appointed as Dean of Studies for Dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine.
From 1980 to 1986 he studied Dentistry at Heidelberg University. In 1989 he qualified at the Polyclinic of Periodontology, where he also developed, organized, and managed the field of Periodontology in teaching, research, and patient care. In 1997 he was appointed to the Academic Research Council (Akademischen Rat) and in 1999 he was appointed to the Senior Academic Research Council (Akademischen Oberrat). One year later he became Director of the field of "Preventive and Restorative Dentistry" in the Polyclinic of Periodontology at Heidelberg University. Christof Dörfer qualified to teach at the professorial level in 2002 and was appointed as a non-faculty lecturer in Dental and Oral Medicine. In 2006 he accepted a position as Professor of Dental Preservation and Periodontics at the Faculty of Medicine at Kiel University. Professor Dörfer's research focus is on preventative dentistry, cariology, restorative dentistry, and periodontology.
