Claudia Lama von Buchwald, MD is a cardiologist specializes in advanced structural heart disease interventions. Born and raised in sunny Guayaquil, Ecuador, she earned her doctorate in Medicine from Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil. During her years working in the operating room as a medical student, she was introduced to the first percutaneous heart valve performed in Ecuador and decided to follow her path into cardiology. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine – Jacobi Medical Center in New York, followed by General Cardiology Fellowship and Interventional Cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Further honing her expertise, she pursued additional training in Advanced Structural Heart Disease Interventions at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Dr. Lama is committed to enhancing her patient's quality of life through early diagnosis and minimally invasive procedures like TAVR and mitral valve repair. Her interests also include complex coronary interventions, addressing health disparities, and women's heart disease.
