Dr. Cynthia Villarreal-Garza studied Medicine at the Tecnologico de Monterrey and specialized in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Salvador Zubiran National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition. She is a Master and Doctor of Medical Sciences graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and completed a subspecialty in Breast Cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Center, affiliated with the University of Toronto.

Since 2007, she has been a professor at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. She has been awarded the Miguel Alemán Valdés Award in the Health Area 2017, the Mujer Tec Award 2017, the FUNSALUD Biennial Award for Breast Cancer Research 2013, three awards from the American Association of Oncology and another from the European Association of Oncology. . She has published more than 120 indexed articles and is a member of the National System of Researchers, level II. Her projects dedicated to improving the living conditions of breast cancer patients in Mexico have received funding from Avon Mexico, Susan G. Komen, CIMAB, CONACYT, and the City of Hope Medical Center.

She is currently the Director of Oncology at the Breast Cancer Center - TecSalud and is a Researcher in Medical Sciences at the National Institute of Cancerology. She founded and directs "Young and Strong: Program for the Care and Research of Young Women with Breast Cancer." She is a founder and member of the Civil Association "Doctors and Researchers in the Fight Against Breast Cancer".

She is a member of the Mexican Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Association of Mastology, AC, and serves as Secretary of the Breast Cancer Group of the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group (LACOG). She has coordinated research efforts in conjunction with the LACOG Cooperative Group, SLACOM, Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Women's College Hospital, and City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer.
