Dame Professor Donna Kinnair, DBE, RGN, HV, LLB, MA, joined the Royal College of Nursing as Deputy Director of Nursing on 1st June 2015, providing leadership to the RCN Nursing Department to enable provision of support, expertise, resources and learning and development opportunities that enable member and the wider nursing, health and social care community to enhance their practice, develop nursing as a profession and influence health policy.
Donna previously held the post of Clinical Director of emergency medicine at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust and prior to this held the post of Executive Director of Nursing, Southeast London Cluster Board; Director of Commissioning for London Borough of Southwark and Southwark PCT.
Donna was the Strategic Commissioner for Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham Health Authority’s Children’s Services.
Donna advised the Prime Minister’s Commission on the future of Nursing and Midwifery in 2010 and also served as nurse/child health assessor to the Victoria Climbié Inquiry.
Donna has managed hospitals’ and community nursing teams and worked as a child protection service manager. She is an experienced nurse tutor and has chaired working groups on several reviews into children’s services. She was also a consultant editor for Nursing Management.
