Dani Paul Bolognesi PhD

Dr. Dani P. Bolognesi is the Director of the Center for AIDS Research. This is a comprehensive program, one of 11 nationally; that includes basic research, clinical research and patient care. Basic and clinical research programs are tightly interwoven in areas and include basic molecular and viral biology, vaccine research and novel approaches for therapy that include genetic therapy and immune reconstitution.

Dr. Bolognesi also heads a research team that focuses on immune mechanisms that control HIV replication and pathogenesis. This group of investigators also represents the Central Immunology Laboratory for NIH sponsored AIDS Vaccine Clinical Trials.Recently Duke University Medical Center has initiated a multidisciplinary program focused on harnessing the immune system to combat infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders and cancer. Dr. Bolognesi and Dr. Barton F. Haynes of the Department of Medicine are Co-Directors of the program which has been designated as the Human Vaccine Institute.

Dr. Bolognesi is also Vice Chairman of Research and Development for the Department of Surgery
