Daniel F. Kiernan MD, FAAO, FACS

Daniel Kiernan, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the retina. He is author of over 75 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and meeting presentations and is currently an investigator in several clinical trials investigating new treatment options for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other eye diseases to effectively restore lost vision. “My goal as a retina specialist is to save vision and reduce the burden that current therapies place on my patients and their families,” says Dr. Kiernan.

Dr. Kiernan graduated from The University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his doctorate in medicine from Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at The University of Chicago Hospital, Pritzker School of Medicine. During his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Kiernan was awarded several accolades for his research in imaging and treatment of retinal diseases, including the Raymond R. Margherio Award from the Retina Society, which he was subsequently elected to by his peers. He continues his interest in investigating both noninvasive and surgical approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of sight-debilitating retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and inherited retinal diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa.

Dr. Kiernan is a member of the American Society of Retinal Surgeons, the Retina Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the National Eagle Scout Association. He is also a reviewer for several peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals.
