Dr. Garcia is associate medical director of anti-thrombotic therapy at UWMC and a UW professor of medicine. He is an expert in anticoagulation, as well as, the treatment and prevention of thromboembolic disease. In addition to seeing patients with a variety of hematologic disorders, Dr. Garcia has a clinical research focus on how to make anticoagulation, especially for venous thromboembolism, safer and more effective.
Dr. Garcia earned his bachelor's degree from Duke University and his M.D. from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his hematology fellowship at the University of Washington. Prior to assuming his current position on the faculty at the UW, Dr. Garcia had previously served as an attending physician at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Garcia is board certified in internal medicine and is a member of the American Society of Hematology, as well as, the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Garcia is a member of the board of directors for a number of organizations including: the North American Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Societies of North America and the Anticoagulation Forum.
