David Chadwick MD, FRCS(Urol)

David Chadwick graduated from Newcastle medical school and subsequently trained in general surgery in Bristol and Liverpool. This was followed by a two year period of research which culminated in a thesis entitled Prognostic Factors in Prostate Cancer and the awarding of an MD (Bristol). The studies included the first UK study of screening for prostate cancer published in The Lancet in 1991. Urological training followed in Norwich, Leeds and Bradford followed by a prostate cancer fellowship in Toronto. He was appointed Consultant Urologist at the then South Cleveland Hospital in 1995 with a remit to develop a specialist prostate cancer service.

David provided local leadership in these initiatives and played an active part in the National Cancer Peer Review and recruitment to clinical trials. He led on the development of the Tees robotic surgical service at The James Cook University Hospital which commenced in 2014. This is now the second-largest single robot multidisciplinary surgical program in the UK. David served as Clinical Director in Urology for many years and was appointed as Chief of Surgical Services at South Tees in 2015 and subsequently as Medical Director of the Planned Care Centre during the restructuring of the Trust in 2016. David now combines this executive role with ongoing clinical commitments in the prostate cancer team.
