David Mowatt is a highly trained Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon who has obtained undergraduate degrees in both medicine and dentistry. He graduated in medicine and surgery (MB.BS) from St George’s Hospital, London in 1997 having previously trained in Maxillofacial Surgery after graduating in dentistry from Edinburgh University. In 2000 he became a fellow in general surgery (FRCS) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Following his training in general surgery, he undertook specialist training in reconstructive plastic and cosmetic surgery in the UK and America in Manchester, London, Yorkshire, Michigan and Philadelphia. Between 2002 and 2004 he was the Craniofacial Surgery fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, during which time he undertook research in tissue bioengineering and regenerative medicine, culminating in the award of a Doctorate (MD) from University College London. He was awarded the Fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Plast) in 2009.

As a fully trained Plastic Surgeon, David Mowatt is entered on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for plastic surgery. Further to his specialist training in reconstructive plastic surgery, he has undertaken additional training fellowships in breast and microsurgery and was appointed the first Fellow in Cosmetic Surgery awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons, He is a fulll member of the British Association of Aesthetic PLastic Surgeons (BAAPS). David publishes in the plastic surgery literature and has presented his work nationally and internationally at plastic surgery and scientific meetings. He takes a keen interest and is actively involved in the postgraduate training of future plastic surgeons and feels strongly that the apprenticeship model of training for surgeons is maintained. He is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, where his special interests are skin cancer and sarcoma surgery, reconstruction following cancer surgery of the face, head & neck, breast reconstruction and gynaecological reconstruction.
