Dr. Derek Smith is a neurologist who provides care for patients in the Executive Health Program. In his practice, Dr. Smith commonly treats and assesses headaches, seizures and strokes. Born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, Dr. Smith obtained both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Immunology from the University of Toronto. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia before completing his residency in adult neurology at the University of Ottawa.
Always eager to learn more, Dr. Smith is involved in numerous research projects and has shared his knowledge at various conferences including the Canadian Stroke Congress, the European Stroke Congress and the Canadian Rheumatology Association Meeting. He is currently a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. When he’s not working, Dr. Smith enjoys playing golf and listening to live music. He also speaks Russian, which he taught to his two daughters at an early age.
