Dr. Lau is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, Faculty of Humanities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before his academic career, he worked in a variety of clinical settings as a speech therapist and clinical instructor which equipped him with extensive clinical experience and knowledge.
Dr. Lau’s research interests lie mainly in clinical psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, reading development in Chinese, developmental dyslexia in Chinese and its assessment and treatment, as well as communication disorders in Chinese. He is particularly interested in phonological, morphological, and orthographic processing in children with developmental dyslexia and the development of clinical language assessment tools and theoretically motivated language intervention for individuals with developmental dyslexia. He is also interested in lexical processing in the adult population and its neurological basis.
