Elizabeth Benninger is a postdoctoral research fellow for the Cleveland Alliance for Education Research (CAER) through the Center for Urban Education and a Psychology Instructor at Cleveland State University. She obtained a master's in psychology (Clinical and Applied Community Psychology) from Antioch University, Los Angeles, and a bachelor’s degree in social and community development studies and a doctoral degree in psychology from the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. Her research interests include the study of children’s well-being, health disparities, participatory research approaches, and community health promotion. Her work additionally focuses on national and international collaborations with educational and governmental institutions and non-profit and nongovernmental organizations which specifically focus on improving the well-being of children and families within communities experiencing high levels of poverty and violence. She is an active member of the International Society of Child Indicators Research (ISCI), the Society for Community Research and Action, the Society for Prevention Research, and the International Surf Therapy Organization (ISTO).
