Eric D. Collins, M.D. is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in Anesthesiology (dual appointment), at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Medical Director, Metropolitan Center for Mental Health in New York City. Dr. Collins is board-certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. Over the course of his research and teaching career, Dr. Collins published over 25 articles and book chapters on addiction. He was the lead author on a landmark clinical trial, published in 2005 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), comparing heroin detoxification methods, including detoxification under general anesthesia. Dr. Collins lectures in pharmacology teach medical students and residents at Columbia and maintain a private practice of general and addiction psychiatry. He is the Immediate Past President of the New York Society of Addiction Medicine and continues to serve on its Board.
