Dr. Katz came to Phoenix as program director for the emergency medicine residency program at MIHS before becoming vice chairman of education and later vice chair of the emergency medicine department at the health system. He has also led the graduate medical education committee for MIHS.
Dr. Katz attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, completing a 5-year residency in emergency and internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. In 2000, he joined the faculty at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, becoming assistant program director a year later. Dr. Katz has been active in numerous emergency medicine organizations, including the Council of Residency Directors, where he is currently past-president. His research has focused on education and he has received numerous awards for his teaching, mentorship and advocacy, including the 2014 Parker Palmer Courage to Teach Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
