Dr. Lavernia attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and received his medical degree from Zaragoza Medical School in Zaragoza, Spain. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine was completed at Christ Hospital-Rush Medical School in Oak Lawn-Chicago, IL.
Dr. Frank Lavernia has over 32 years of experience in the diabetes practice.He is a faculty member of the National Diabetes Education Initiative (NDEI), Vascular Biology Working Group (VBWG), and Coalition for the Advancement of Cardiovascular Health (COACH) for many years.
His main interests are diabetes mellitus, hypertension, lipid management. He also sees patients for general internal medicine care. He is a national speaker on above subjects for PriMED’s , ACCESS, and ADA (American Diabetes Association) programs all over the US.
His office holds a Certificate of Recognition for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA) since 1998.He was the Founder and Director of the North Broward Diabetes Center at the Broward Health North Broward Medical Center. He has multiple publications and has appeared in multiple TV programs and NPR (National Public Radio) discussing diabetes and counterfeit drugs.
