Professor Freek Verheugt, MD, FACC, FAHA, FESC, is an Emeritus Professor of Cardiology at the Heart-Lung Centre of the University Medical Centre of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, and was Chairman of the Department of Cardiology, Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Professor Verheugt graduated from the University of Amsterdam and trained in cardiology at the Thoraxcenter of the Erasmus University, Rotterdam. His main interests are pharmacological and interventional treatments of acute coronary syndromes and atrial fibrillation.
Professor Verheugt has published more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and has more than 14,000 citations. He is an editorial board member of the European Heart Journal and an editorial adviser to Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Circulation.
