Dr. Fuminari Komatsu, MD, PhD, is a Japanese neurosurgeon who has specialized in minimally invasive endoscopic neurosurgery. Dr. Komatsu graduated from the School of Medicine, Tokai University, Japan in 1998. After finishing residency training and a Ph.D. program at Fukuoka University, Japan, he started doing endoscopic neurosurgery in 2005. To enhance his endoscopic technique, he investigated endoscopic anatomy and developed endoscopic approaches for the next generation at the Center for Anatomy, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, from 2009 to 2011, under Professor Manfred Tschabitscher, who is a world-recognized legend in the field of endoscopic anatomy. After returning to Japan in 2012, he served at Tokai University Hachioji Hospital in Tokyo and pioneered novel endoscopic procedures based on his wide range of anatomical knowledge. When he visited Kolkata, India, for an international conference in 2018, Professor Robin Sengupta, who is a founder and chairman of the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata, was impressed by his endoscopic neurosurgery and invited him to the institute to help many patients and educate young neurosurgeons. In August 2018, he started to dedicate himself to people with brain disorders at the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata.
