Gaetano Caramori is currently a Full Professor of Respiratory Diseases at the University of Messina, Italy, and a Clinical Pulmonologist in the Pulmonology Unit at the University Hospital of Messina. He holds a Philosophical Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Experimental Respiratory Pathophysiology. He is an honorary member of staff at the Airways Disease Section of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, UK. Between 2013 and 2015, he served as Chair of the Scientific Group 5.01 (Airway Pharmacology and Treatment) of the European Respiratory Society (ERS). He is currently a Member of the ERS College of Experts and has been awarded the title of Fellow of the European Respiratory Society (FERS). He is also a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, USA; Overseas Member of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK; Member of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP); and Member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). He is the Associate Editor of Pulmonary Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Senior Editor of the Journal of Inflammation. His H index is 42 (according to Scopus) and has over 140 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals listed in PubMed and/or Google Scholar. Gaetano's research interests focus on clinical respiratory medicine, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary pharmacology, the pathophysiology of airway inflammation, inhaled glucocorticoids, bronchodilators, xanthines, and new respiratory drugs.
