Dr. Gerald Harkins MD is a Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Board-Certified Gynecologic Surgeon. He is the Chief of Minimally Invasive GYN Surgery and specializes in the complete surgical care of patients with complex Gynecologic Conditions.

Dr. Harkins practices Complete Excisional Surgery for Endometriosis. Harkins established the Division of Minimally Invasive GYN Surgery at Penn State Hershey and he established an AAGL Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gyn surgery in 2010 and since then this program has grown into one of the top Fellowships in the nation with regards to Surgical cases and Research.

Dr. Harkins grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and was first an athletic trainer at Penn State University. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Baylor University through the United States Army. He attended medical school at Penn State College of Medicine and completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the United State Army. At the completion of his military service, he returned to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. During his military career, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was Chief of Gynecologic Services stationed at the United State Army Hospital in Baghdad.
