Heleen Weyers MA, PhD

Heleen Weyers (MA Philosophy 1995, MA History 1995, PhD Sociology of Law 2002 University of Groningen) teaches sociology of law and political theory. Her research focuses on the emergence and effectiveness of law. Subjects of her research are the regulation of medical behavior that potentially shortens life such as euthanasia, and smoking bans. She wrote a dissertation on the process of legal change with respect to euthanasia in the Netherlands and co-authored with John Griffiths and Maurice Adams Euthanasia and Law in Europe (Hart Publishing 2008).
