Mr. Henk Giele MBBS, MS, FRCS, FRACS (Plastics), MRACMA, is an experienced consultant in the field of plastic reconstructive and hand surgery with over 12 years of practice in these areas.

Mr. Giele's experience embraces the management of skin and soft tissue tumors, cancers, trauma, general reconstruction, and congenital anomalies.

He is a surgical specialist who trained in Australia and is accredited in plastic surgery in both its reconstructive and cosmetic aspects. His training included a year of microsurgical research at the Bernard O'Brien Institute of Microsurgery, St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne.

Following the completion of his training, he completed a fellowship in plastic surgery at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford in 1995. In 1996, he was employed under an orthopedic hand fellowship at L’Institut de la Main, Paris, France.

Mr. Giele turned down a planned Fellowship in New York to accept a position as Consultant Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon in Oxford in October 1996.

Mr Giele has a keen interest in undergraduate teaching and for five years became the inaugural Florey Lecturer in Clinical Medicine (2000-2005) at Queen's College, Oxford.

He also became involved in postgraduate education and training, joining the Committee for the International Instructional Courses in Hand Surgery run by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (2000-2005), and running the training program for plastic surgical trainees in the Oxford-Wessex region as the program director.

Mr. Giele has recently published a textbook on plastic surgery with one of his colleagues.

Mr. Giele has been involved in the training and assessment of several postgraduate scholars, and in researching diverse fields all related to his main areas of surgical practice, resulting in the production and publication of over sixty original peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and book chapters.
