Prof. Dr. Herbert Resch was born on May 22, 1950, in Hofstatten near Gleisdorf in Styria. After visiting the elementary and secondary school in Gleisdorf, he visited the HBLA-Raumberg. Following a two-year veterinary study at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, he studied human medicine at the University of Innsbruck from 1973 to 1978. After completing his doctorate, he completed his apprenticeship as a general practitioner in Zell am See Hospital. In 1981 he moved to the University Hospital Innsbruck, where he was trained as a specialist in trauma surgery. In 1988, he was given the teaching license to become a University Lecturer in Trauma Surgery. From 1993 until his retirement in 2015, he headed the Department of Trauma Surgery and the Department of Trauma Surgery and Sports Traumatology at the University Hospital Salzburg.
