Prof. Huma Cheema graduated from FJ Medical College Lahore in 1984 and was declared the best all-round graduate with distinction and five gold medals. She passed the MRCP UK (Pediatrics) exam in 1992. She was awarded Diploma in Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition with distinction and a gold medal by the University of London in 1995.
Prof Cheema started her career in Pediatrics at Mayo Hospital Lahore and later trained at Kings College and Guy’s Hospital London UK. Subsequently, she trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology-Hepatology and Nutrition at St Bartholomew’s, King’s College, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London UK. In 1998 she joined the University of Child Health Sciences Lahore where she pioneered the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology-Hepatology in Pakistan. She is currently a Professor Emeritus at the University of Child Health Sciences Lahore. She is the Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology-Hepatology Fellowship training program of CPSP. She is the chairperson of the Pakistan Pediatric Association Gastroenterology-Hepatology and Nutrition group.
Prof Cheema has over 100 publications and book chapters to her credit. She has been an invited speaker to major national & international forums. Honors include the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Pediatric and RARD Honorary Award at Rare Disease Conference Bogota. Her Major Research Interests are Metabolic Liver diseases, Genetic and metabolic diseases, and LSDs.
